Concrete Driveways in Billings, MT

One Crew for Billings Concrete and Asphalt

Billings driveways rarely die in one winter — they die across a dozen of them. Water works into the surface, a warm chinook afternoon thaws it, a hard night refreezes it, and every cycle pries the concrete apart a little more. Then the plow blade and the deicer finish the argument. In the Yellowstone Valley the driveway is the hardest-working slab on the property, and the climate is the hardest thing it will ever meet.

Ostermiller Construction pours and replaces concrete driveways all over Billings from our home base in Shepherd, a few minutes northeast of the Heights. Owner Josh Ostermiller runs the work himself: tear-out and replacement of slabs that are past saving, new pours where there was only gravel, and patios, sidewalks and steps to match. Residential first, commercial welcome, and estimates are always free.

Built for the freeze-thaw, not just for pour day

A driveway that lasts in Billings is decided before the truck ever shows up: dig to solid ground, build a compacted gravel base, form to a grade that sheds water away from the garage, pour an air-entrained mix that can take the freeze, and cut control joints where the concrete wants to crack anyway. Concrete cracks — the trade is deciding where. Skip any of those steps and the valley climate will find the shortcut within a few winters.

We are just as straight about the other end of the story. Surface pitting and spalling, cracks that run corner to corner, panels that have settled where the base washed out — that is concrete past the point of sealers and patch kits. When a driveway gets there, the honest fix is removal and replacement: rip it out, rebuild the ground under it, pour it right. We will tell you plainly which side of that line your slab is on.

The Heights, the West End, and everything between the rims and the river

Billings is really several towns wearing one name, and we work all of them. The Heights sits up beyond the sandstone rims — the closest part of town to our Shepherd shop — full of driveways poured decades ago and aging out together. Mid-town and the South Side have the oldest sidewalks and narrowest approaches in the city. Out on the West End, and south of I-90 in Josephine Crossing and Annafeld, new construction means new flatwork: driveways, garage aprons, front walks and backyard patios on fresh-graded lots.

The commercial side gets the same treatment. We handle small parking lots, storefront sidewalks and dumpster pads, plus asphalt paving and repair, crack sealing and fresh striping for properties that move real traffic. And because Laurel, Lockwood and Shepherd are all a short run from town, one crew covers the whole metro without the big-outfit overhead.

Questions From Billings Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Billings. Don't see yours? Call us — we're happy to help.

Call (406) 717-4103

What does a new concrete driveway cost in Billings?
It depends on the square footage, whether old concrete has to come out and be hauled off, how much base work the ground needs, and access for the trucks. Rather than guess at a range that will be wrong for your lot, we come look and put a real number on it — estimates are free. Call Josh at (406) 717-4103.
My driveway has settled — can you raise or level it?
No — we do not do mudjacking or slab leveling. A settled panel almost always means the base under it failed, and pumping material underneath treats the symptom, not the ground. Our fix is to remove the failed section, rebuild and compact the base, and pour new concrete that sits flat because what is under it is finally right.
How far outside Billings do you work?
The daily orbit is Billings, the Heights, Lockwood, Laurel, Shepherd and Huntley. Beyond that we regularly take work in Columbus, Hardin, Roundup and Red Lodge — roughly anywhere within an hour of the Billings area. If you are on the fence about whether you are in range, call and ask.
