An asphalt driveway in Billings, Laurel, Lockwood and across the Yellowstone Valley is the practical choice for most homes and the only one that pencils out for a long drive. Blacktop costs less per square foot than concrete, goes down in a day or two, and takes a plow blade well. We pave new asphalt driveways, repave the ones that are worn through, and turn gravel drives into a surface that stops washboarding every spring.
Length is usually what decides the material out here. On acreage around Shepherd, Huntley and Worden a drive can run hundreds of feet from the county road to the house, and concrete stops making financial sense fast. We install both, so ask for the comparison: concrete driveways covers that side, and asphalt paving covers lots and commercial surfaces.

Gravel costs its owner in small ways all year: mud season, washboard, rock thrown into the yard, a grading bill every spring, dust all summer. Paving ends most of that. We shape and compact what is already on the ground, add base material where the drive needs it, and lay hot mix over a surface that will hold the mat flat.
The conversion is mostly earthwork. A gravel drive that has rutted has soft ground under those ruts, and paving over them puts a new surface on an old problem. We proof the drive first, dig out what will not compact, and build the crown or the fall that sends water off the edges instead of down the wheel tracks.
A quarter mile of driveway is a different animal from a suburban apron. It needs access for the paver, turnaround room near the house, a culvert and approach that meet the county road correctly, and enough width for a delivery truck to pass a parked car. We plan the run before we pave it and thicken the sections that take turning and stopping loads.
Rural drives also live with heavier vehicles than town drives do. Grain trucks, stock trailers, equipment on a lowboy, a fuel delivery in February. Where that traffic is part of the property, the answer is more base and more mat where it turns, brakes and parks. One thin lift stretched across the whole length will not hold up to it.
Asphalt costs less up front, goes down faster, flexes with ground movement, and repairs cheaply when something does fail. It asks for maintenance in return: crack sealing as cracks appear, and seal coating every few years. Skip both and Montana sun and freeze take the surface apart years early.
Concrete costs more to install and asks very little of you afterward. It carries standing weight better and it does not soften on a hot July afternoon. For most Billings-area homes the decision comes down to length and budget: a short drive with a long horizon leans concrete, a long drive or a tighter number leans asphalt. Plenty of properties run both, with a concrete apron at the garage and asphalt for the distance.

We come see the actual job — the slab, the driveway, the lot, and the ground under it. What failed, why it failed, and what the fix really is. No blind quotes over the phone.
You get a free written quote with a real number and a real timeline. It says what's included — tear-out, haul-off, prep, materials — and it holds unless the scope changes.
The crew shows up when we said and does the job the way we quoted it — tear-out, base, forms, pour, pave, seal or stripe. Anything unexpected, you hear about it immediately, not on the invoice.
We walk the finished work together before we call it done. Clean lines, clean site, old material hauled off, and clear guidance on cure times and care. Done means you say it's done.
